Enyimba were tested by Cup rookies - Amanfor

Enyimba attacking winger, Chimezie Amanfor, has admitted that Sokoto North handed them a good test in their Federation Cup round of 64 match on Wednesday.

The People's Elephant went on to defeat Sokoto North 3-1 after trailing by a goal in the early part of the second half and Amanfor believes it was a test of their character as Federation Cup defending champions.

The winger, who came off the bench to replace injured Daniel Etor just 15 minutes into the Cup game, thinks Sokoto North threw everything at Enyimba since the competition is in a knockout format.

"It was not easy playing a non-league club because they knew in their minds there won't be a second chance in the Federation Cup since it is a knockout format. So they give it all they have. Before they scored we missed nine scoring chances, but I knew by God's grace we will win at the end," Amanfor told www.lmc-ng.org.

But Amanfor said he knew it would not be an easy task overcoming the gritty Sokoto team once they took the lead.

The former Akwa United player said the performance of Sokoto North only goes to underscore that football is capable of producing any outcome.

"Yes this is football and anything can happen. Our opponents showed that to us," the winger said.

Amanfor capped a fine performance in the game against Sokoto North by winning a spot kick which centre-back, John Uche, converted and he followed that up with an assist for Kingsley Sokari's goal as Enyimba cruised to a 3-1 win.
